Woman Can Lift Workshop · 22 February 2023

ActionAid and DEC member agencies are working on the ground with our partners in the regions to provide immediate and urgent support to those affected by the earthquakes in Turkey and Syria.

Story

A chance for women to get strong – and fundraise for earthquake victims

Dear everyone,

This year, we are celebrating International Women's Day by uplifting others.

On Sunday the 12th of March at 12PM , we want to honour women globally by raising money for all those impacted by the earthquakes in Turkey and Syria. By educating women of all ages about the advantages of strength training here in London, we can also help raise funds for people across the world impacted by natural disasters.

If you've always wanted to gain strength but you don't know where to begin, you can attend our WOMAN CAN LIFT WORKSHOP. The workshop can teach you everything, from how to use a barbell, to making sure you're doing the proper form to prevent injury.

For every woman who signs up, we ask them to please consider donating £10 or more to our fundraiser, which is funding aid for the earthquake victims in Turkey and Syria.

As you've likely seen in the news, earthquakes have struck northwestern Syria and southern Turkey, killing over 44,000 people and injuring countless others. The first deadly earthquake struck while people were inside their homes, asleep in their beds, with no warning signs. More than 54,000 buildings, including hospitals and schools, have been destroyed or damaged. People have been left without shelter in freezing winter conditions.

Please give generously to support their response on the ground to the immediate aftermath of this disaster by providing emergency support in the way of shelter, warm clothing and food to everyone who has lost their homes and are out on the streets. - £10 could provide blankets for two people to keep them warm - £50 could provide emergency food for two families for 10 days - £100 could provide emergency shelter for four families.

We wanted to play our part in supporting the aid efforts. Our aim is to fundraise £500 to the Disasters Emergency Committee charity and their local partners, who are among the first responders providing urgent aid. Following the search and rescue operation, immediate priorities are access to healthcare, shelter for those who have lost their homes, heating in safe spaces, blankets, warm clothes, ensuring people have food and clean water.

If you have any further questions, please do not hesitate to contact one of us.

Thank you in advance.
