Transaid transforms lives through safe, available, and sustainable transport. As an international development organisation that shares transport expertise with partners and governments, Transaid empowers people to build the skills they need to transform their own lives.

Story

**As a special thank you in December, while stocks last, we are sending a copy of our 2022 calendar featuring the nature in our fen garden to everyone who donates at least £10 to this page and e-mails calendar@logisticspartners.co.uk with their address. **

In 2000 Lynn took the big step of leaving behind paid employment and setting up a Logistics consultancy. In the last 20 years the business has morphed from a partnership to sole trader to a limited company where we are co-directors and business partners.

We wanted to mark the 20th anniversary in some way, and as parties are not possible in this COVID-19 environment we have decided to fundraise for Transaid - a organisation that is so important to us. Lynn has supported Transaid since 2008 and has been a volunteer Transaid Ambassador since 2015. Transaid transforms lives through safe, available, and sustainable transport. As an international development organisation that shares transport expertise with partners and governments, Transaid empowers people to build the skills they need to transform their own lives.

The Transaid story

Transaid is an international development organisation that transforms lives through safe transport, in two key areas: road safety and access to healthcare.

Each year, 1.35 million people die on the world’s roads (source: WHO, 2018). Transaid aims to create safer roads in sub-Saharan Africa through professional driver training programmes in Zambia, Tanzania, and Uganda.

Transaid’s access to health programmes include the highly successful MAMaZ Against Malaria (MAM) programme, whose pilot recorded a staggering 96% reduction in child mortality from malaria in 2018. Now, MAM is being scaled up to reach 355 communities across five Zambian districts with MAM At Scale.

MAM At Scale has recently risen to the challenges of COVID-19 by adapting to tackle COVID-19 as well as malaria, through raising awareness and improving sanitisation facilities in rural areas. By applying MAM’s proven, community-driven approach to the new challenge of the pandemic, the initiative is ensuring that no one gets left behind in the fight against COVID-19.

What are we doing

Many of Transaid's traditional means of fundraising, like challenges and professional dinners, have been curtailed during COVID-19, so we wanted to do something to help.

We are starting off the fundraising with £2000, and our hoping that our customers, colleagues, associates, connections, friends and family will help us double that to £4000.

If you donate, and leave your name,  we will add your name to a fund-raising wall on our company website. The wall will be live by the by the new year and updated weekly. If you are a business and donate, please send your logo for the wall to fundraising@logisticspartners.co.uk.

How you can help

Even though the pandemic has postponed their fundraising events, Transaid is currently empowering rural Zambian communities to combat COVID-19. Your donation could help in the following ways:

- £120 could buy a strong bicycle for a health worker, enabling doctors and nurses to reach more communities every day.

- £3.90 could buy a box of 50 gloves for CHVs.

- £2.70 could buy the materials to install two tippy taps, to equip a community with two hand washing facilities.

- Just £1 could buy a locally produced face mask for a CHV.

I know times are hard for many people but imagine fighting COVID-19 without easy access to water and transport to health care.

Thanks so much for supporting us on this.

We are so grateful we are adding the name of everyone who donates and leaves their name to a page on our website.
