Story
The Irish Society for the Protection of Cruelty to Animals (ISPCA) is Ireland’s largest animal welfare charity working to prevent cruelty to animals, to promote animal welfare, and to pro-actively relieve animal suffering.
The ISPCA’s nine Animal Welfare Inspectors respond to cases of cruelty, neglect, and abuse reported by members of the public to the confidential ISPCA National Animal Cruelty Helpline to help rescue, educate, enforce and assist with prosecutions of animal welfare offences.
Together with 17 affiliated member societies, each year thousands of animals of many different types are rescued, treated, rehabilitated and rehomed. The animals rescued are the most vulnerable in society having suffered from cruelty or neglect; or were abandoned and left to fend for themselves. It takes an average of 54 days of care at one of the ISPCA rescue centres for an animal to fully recover both physically and psychologically before responsibly rehoming.
