Story
What the London Marathon means to VPH
In recent years, as the club has grown, we have been well represented by almost 100 runners. The course is always superbly supported by fellow club members and their families and friends, all willing the jade and blue athletes toward the finish line with roars and cheers!
Why was this fundraising page created?
The intention of the club was to create and share one fundraising page so that any individual related to or associated with one of the marathon runners at VPH, that wished to make a charity donation could do so collectively.
Fundraising for The Running Charity (TRC)
For 2020, VPH has decided to support a local charity The Running Charity, of which some of our club members already volunteer their time. The charity’s Programmes Coach Claude Umuhire came to visit the club to introduce the charity's roots and the work they do with young people who are affected by homelessness.
This charity shares complementary values with our club, where open minded individuals have come together with a newfound / existing affinity for running, and often use it as a cornerstone for mindfulness and wellbeing. Longstanding members have nurtured VPH into a friendly and supportive community within the confines of the urban sprawl of London.
More about TRC
The Running Charity supports young people aged 16 to 25 who are affected by homelessness or dealing with complex needs, by using a pioneering programme that looks to lay the foundations of an active and connected life. Working amongst the hardest to reach communities, we combine both physical activities alongside personal development, delivering high-quality coaching and youthwork support to homeless hostels, women-only shelters, youth-offending services, mental health centres, and refugee hubs. We aim to replace feelings of failure and isolation with those of achievement and community.
The range of areas that the Charity achieves positive outcomes serves to highlight the genuine and penetrative impact that our work is having in the lives of some of the most marginalised young people in society.
