Story
The Treasured Memories Appeal provides ongoing support to bereaved children and young people by providing memory boxes, which are put together by Queens Hospital's Palliative Care Team and contain books which help children come to terms with losing a loved one, and items to keep the memory of their loved ones alive, for example, presents for special occasions such as their 21st birthday, wedding day etc.
In May 2018, the Treasured Memories Appeal donations enabled us to open 'Dennis's Den' - a designated space in Queens Hospital for us to be able to have difficult conversations such as breaking bad news and support children and young people to share their anxieties and feelings in a trusting and safe environment. The room was named after one of our patients, Dennis Sullivan, who had a young family and died five years ago. Since his death, his family have been extremely supportive and have been raising money to improve facilities for dying patients and young families. We are currently working towards opening the same facility at King George Hospital.
