*CHANGE OF DATE - 17th SEPTEMBER* We support women to recover from addiction and trauma. We don't just provide supported housing, we provide a loving home - something that many of our women have never had. We walk side by side with the women allowing them to work through their painful pasts to uncover the hidden treasure within them and to thrive in their new lives. For example, we have had women come to us who have been unable to get undressed for bed or take a bath with others in the house for a whole year because they were frightened of their abuser coming in. They now feel safe enough to do this. Some women try to hide their trauma by harming themselves and/or making themselves sick and hiding it in bags in their room. They reach a place where they are able to talk about this, which helps them heal as we know that secrets keep them sick and grow in the dark, but the truth will set them free. They also learn new healthy coping strategies. Our staff have lived experience so really understand where the women are coming from.
Treasures is built on hope and transformation of lives and we teach the women in Treasures homes the gift of reaching out to help and support other people. We do this in a number of ways, our most recent one being this bike ride, which the women themselves will partake in. This is a huge challenge for them.
All money goes directly to the immediate need that it is fundraised for, no money goes to admin costs. The main purpose of this fundraising is for the following:
Martina has devoted her life to working in Joy Camp residential rehab where she lives with her 4 year old daughter and Cease Fire (a charity of ex gang members that mediate with current gangs). Martina is paid a very small wage and realises she needs to keep her home environment separate from the rehab. We have been given permission to build a house on the land and this costs £12500.
The rehab itself (which Martina was a resident in herself) costs £350 for one gang member/drug addict to go there to address their behaviours and become productive not destructive members of society.
