Story

Welcome to my Tree Top Troubadour Campaign Page!

For those who don't know me, I am a tree surgeon, in my 'spare time', and I have a band called Bommerillo. We have had a number one single and I believe we were pivotal in the release of Aung San Suu Kyi, but I don't want to bore you with all of that now. I want to tell you about how I'm going to raise money for The Royal Marsden Cancer Charity (N...o.1095197) - the wonderful people who treated my wonderful Mum for breast cancer!

On the 2nd of June 2012, I climbed to the top of the tallest tree in my home county of Surrey (Dorking - 140ft), then once at the top, I performed an acoustic gig with a guitar made especially from local timbers.

Bolstered by the huge success of this climb, I will now go on to climb and play songs at the top of the tallest tree in the UK (Scotland - 210ft), exactly a year on, June 2nd 2013. After that I will be seeking out the tallest tree in THE WORLD*!!!

The whole campaign is being filmed (watch the first part here: http://www.youtube.com/channel/UCjsykda9hQELqXX39jaiIbQ ) and will be made into a documentary with the help of Paul McMahon (Sullivan's Reach Films) and other TV/film production personnel, to raise awareness of the campaign and hopefully lots and lots of money for this brilliant cause.

I have already raised over £2000, more than double my initial target, and have had some incredible offers of support from some huge names in entertainment, including Brian Blessed, Andy Beckwith, Winston Ellis, Twinnie Lee Moore and James Toseland. Google any of these names and you'll be blown away by their achievements. As if that wasn't enough, Rock Super Star JOHN PARR played a breath-taking set at the LIVE DELIBERATELY FUNDRAISER for the campaign on April 20th 2013, and continues to be a great supporter and source of inspiration.

Chris Delia of Surrey based Carillion Guitars has created the most beautiful tribute to the campaign in the shape of his "Troubatar", made almost exclusively from local timbers. Martin Guitars have also donated one of their Backpackers. Both guitars, among other items, are to be auctioned at the end of the campaign.

Bommerillo have also released their long awaited Ten Thousand Reasons single http://www.cdbaby.com/cd/bommerillo3 to raise funds for the campaign available on iTunes, Amazon and other download sites.

What began as a one off idea to raise money for a local cancer charity, has now become an inspirational campaign that will bring a positive angle to the terrifying subject of cancer. It is as much about raising the spirits of sufferers and their loved ones as it is about raising money for the charity.

I am so thankful for people's contributions so far, and I really believe that if everyone spreads the word and gets behind the campaign, we can raise many thousands of pounds for The Royal Marsden!

*Tallest tree in the world is Hyperion, a Coast Redwood in California that stands at approx. 380ft. I have not yet been granted permission by the U.S. Parks Authority to climb this tree, so another legally climbable tree may be the only alternative if permission isn't granted.

About the charity

We raise money solely to support The Royal Marsden, a world-leading cancer centre. From funding state-of-the-art equipment and ground-breaking research, to creating the very best patient environments, we will never stop looking for ways to improve the lives of people affected by cancer.
