Alan's Trek to Everest Basecamp

My story starts in 1978, at just 5 years old I am diagnosed with Leukemia.. initially in St Alban's City hospital I am moved to Westminster Children's hospital. Recieving treatment such as cranial radiotherapy and chemotherapy through a spinal tap these are not the most pleasant places to be. If not for the nurses and parents who make the time more enjoyable we would have gone mad... It was here I met Anthony Nolan. We were in rooms side by side with a large glass window separating us... Communicating through the glass was about as much as we could do as you were very limited within the confines of a small room.
I was fortunate on the 2nd attempt of treatment and have managed to go onto have an amazing life with a wonderful wife and 2 beautiful daughters ... The long term side effects have been testing over the past 10 years, however I do consider myself to be one of the lucky ones....
I recently have decided to push the boundaries with the hiking up Everest to basecamp and if I can raise some support for the Anthony Nolan Trust along the way that would be great...
‘I’m hoping to raise £5000 because that’s enough to fund another 125 potential lifesavers on the stem cell register. It costs Anthony Nolan £40 to add each new potential donor to the register; 125 more potential donors on the register means 125 more people who could come up as a match for someone in desperate need of a lifesaving transplant
£5 could get vital information to a patient and their family.
