Mount Snowdon - July · 16 July 2021 ·
Thank you for visiting my fund raising page, I am walking in memory of my dad, I have chosen Snowdon because I remember us going there when I was a child. My dads birth month is also May. My story is below.
On 7th October 2020, my dad sadly passed away. It was sudden and unexpected and singularly the most emotionally painful experience of my life. Despite the manner in which he died, he was also diagnosed with Vascular Dementia and Alzheimer’s (along with Parkinson’s disease). I watched as my hero, the most intelligent, independent, articulate man deteriorate till he could no longer use the vast amount of words he’d learned throughout his life to express himself, and become completely reliant on my mum for care. He would often try to say something and then relent and say ‘it’s difficult’ because he could no longer find the words, I remember turning my head to hide the tears from him, that would well in my eyes because of what this terrible disease had taken from him and from us, in him.
Despite this, I am reminded of all the charity he gave throughout his life, for years in monthly subscriptions, something he passed on to me. I have never done anything like this before but I want to walk in his memory to raise money for Alzheimer’s society because they offer support to people who are isolated by this awful disease, providing support calls, welfare calls, fighting for patients rights in care homes.. more now than ever in this pandemic, people suffering with this disease are struggling alone.
I would be so grateful for any contribution you can give to support me. I struggled with signing up because £300 seems so steep to raise (and if I don’t raise it, I forfeit my place on the walk) but I know that Dementia sadly touches so many lives, I am hoping you can join me in the fight against Dementia.
Please also select GiftAid if you’re a U.K. taxpayer as it donates more but at no cost to yourself. Thank you if you’ve got this far, for reading 🙏🏻💚
