Story

“The Alzheimer’s Society is transforming the landscape of dementia forever. Until the day we find a cure, they will create a society where those affected by dementia are supported and accepted, able to live in their community without fear or prejudice.”

"Dementia impacts the very core of who we are, our connection to the world, the people we love, the memories we cherish. With dementia, we slowly lose these. No one should have to endure the heartbreak of dementia. And that’s why Alzheimer’s Research exists."

My name is Daniel, and after a difficult end to 2022, I would like to make a difference in 2023. Since my attention has been drawn to this terrible illness, I have noticed how prevalent it has become, with many of us having acquaintances, friends, and family who have developed the symptoms of Alzheimer's, and this has touched me.

It is sad to see that the body is functioning perfectly, but the brain no longer is, and I wish to help those people and families - to support them and put money into research.

I felt that I want to do something substantial. To make a difference and to warrant the generosity of your donations. So please support me when I take on a trilogy of the Alzheimer’s Society Trek 26 Challenges this Summer.

The first of which was not originally in my plan, however on the 3rd of June 2023 I completed the 26-mile Trek route around central London.

I will now be following this on the 8th of July 2023 trekking a 26-mile route across the Brecon Beacons in Wales.

I will then complete the trilogy on the 9th of September 2023 trekking another 26-mile route, this time around the South Devon Coast.

To provide a little background on what the money raised will be going towards, below is a list of the benefits it can provide.

£300 means over 1,800 people can access Talking Point, our online forum. Here people can learn from each other experiences and share their frustrations and their knowledge of local services.

£95 provides a telephone-based Dementia Adviser for a full day. Providing essential support to those affected by dementia.

£15 turns four ordinary citizens into superhero Dementia Friends! There is a stigma attached to living with dementia and Dementia Friends facilitates societal change, helping people understand the impact on people’s lives.

All donations are greatly appreciated and will go to a very worthy cause that supports both those who are suffering from this horrible illness, and the often-forgotten partners, family, and carers who give up so much of their own lives to care for the people they love.
