I am currently a social worker for old people and I see almost daily the impact of dementia on people and their families. I feel that the current world is not really set to include the needs of people with dementia (as also unfortunately many other conditions) and their carers. 

The number of people with Dementia and Alzheimer is increasing and predicted to increase further. There is need to increase resources for people and families but also ensure that there are suitable resources to give families a break such as specialist care homes, day centres and activities. 

I am raising money to support people and their families to have important resources available to them in the present and support research that can shape the future!

I wanted to challenge myself with this new experience and I am lucky to do it together with an amazing group of women ,Far and Away team. 

Finally, I am doing this Trek in the lovely memory of Nonno Enzo and with a thought to all the people that I know that were or are carers.

Sono un'assistente sociale che lavora con gli anziani e quasi quotidianamente lavoro con persone affette da Alzheimer e le loro famiglie. Vedo le società contemporanea non è organizzata per includere i bisogni delle persone con Alzheimer (e purtroppo di persone con molte altre patologie) e delle famiglie che le assistono. 

Il numero di persone affette da Alzheimer sta aumentando e dovrebbe aumentare ancora di più in futuro. C'è bisogno di aumentare le risorse per le persone e le loro famiglie ma anche garantire risorse in supporto alle famiglie per dargli un break come case di riposo per periodi temporanei, centri diurni e attività.

Sto raccogliendo fondi per aiutare le persone e le loro famiglie ad avere importanti risorse accessibili ora e dare fondi alla ricerca che potrà portare importanti sviluppi per il futuro.

Voglio spingere i miei limiti con questa esperienza e lo faccio insieme ad un fantastico gruppo di donne, Far and Away Team.

Infine, faccio questo camminata in memoria di Nonno Enzo e con un pensiero per tutte le persone che conosco che accudiscono o hanno accudito i loro cari nel momento del bisogno.
