Story

Alzheimer’s Society is transforming the landscape of dementia forever.Until the day we find a cure, we will create a society where those affected by dementia are supported and accepted, able to live in their community without fear or prejudice.

My dad Allan John Moncur died in 2016 after suffering for years with dementia. He was an incredible man who loved life. His memories and joie  de vive  were cruelly taken from him. Dad was a police officer for 30 years and was well known for his smile. He loved to stretch his mind by writing poems and pantomimes. He left school at 15 with no qualifications but chose to take his O levels in his 60’s. He was always singing, inventing games, playing golf, talking to people and joking. Slowly but surely my family watched his mind deteriorate and he forgot who his family were but every now and again the laughing policeman would shine through. Dementia can strike at anytime and does not discriminate. We want to help end it.

I don’t do exercise! I walk the dogs locally and  I work many hours but want to challenge myself to do something for others in 2021. My son Matt is going to help me reach this goal and for the next 7 months aim to increase my walks to enable me to walk 13 miles in amazing terrain.
