Story

Alzheimer’s Society are working towards a world where dementia no longer devastates lives. They do this by giving help to those living with dementia today and by providing hope for the future by campaigning to make dementia the priority it should be and funding ground-breaking research.

My wife Margaret has now been in a care home for three years. She has a rarer forms of dementia, FTD which means not only has she lost her memory but she has lost the ability to look after herself, to feed herself, to dress herself in fact she is totally dependent on her carers. And on top of that she cannot communicate with her carers or any one else including me. I see her every day, I have watched her decline over the years , believe me it is heartbreaking.

The worst thing of all is that I cannot help her in any way. Maybe by visiting her every day she may, deep inside there ,recognise that we all still care and are with her, who knows.

What I can do is help the Alzheimer’s Society to raise funds so that sometime in the future this condition can be prevented or cured . For this reason my daughter and myself will be taking part in TREK26 for our third time . We are once again walking 13miles around the streets of London, a different route this time though taking us through Royal Parks , along Mayfair to Soho , through Covent Garden and back along the Thames.

Once again I am asking for your help to raise lots of money by sponsoring me on this walk . I hope that you feel you will be able to support me as you have done so generously on previous walks.

Thank you for your donation.
