5 Girls, 26 Miles and 1 Wall....

Helen, Mel, Georgie, Laura, Issy & Sophie, a group of Chartered Surveyors & Planners (and netballing teammates) have decided to push their legs further than the usual weekly match and undertake a 'trekathon' - a one day hike the length of a marathon along Hadrian's Wall, in support of the wonderful Eve Appeal.  Whilst we will be lucky enough to be trekking through a UNESCO world heritage site, the route will be challenging with the gradient ascending further with every mile.

We are honoured to be undertaking this exciting challenge in aid of the Eve Appeal which seeks to raise awareness & fund research for the five female gynaecological cancers; cervical, ovarian, vaginal, vulval and womb, which are often less known about.  We are hugely grateful for any support you can give to help us achieve our fundraising target for this fantastic charity, so we can help women everywhere battle and conquer these cancers. 

10 reasons to support The Eve Appeal

1.      Every day in the UK 53 women are diagnosed with a gynaecological cancer   and 21 will die, The Eve Appeal are determined to change this

2.       We are the only national gynaecological cancer research charity in the UK

3.       Awareness of gynaecological cancers is very low and many women do not even know there are five gynaecological cancers

4.       In recent years there has been a rise in the number of younger women being diagnosed with gynaecological cancer

5.       40% of women with a gynaecological cancer will not survive; despite these grim statistics, gynaecological cancer is not a well-funded cause

6.       The Eve Appeal shares in a united vision with the Department of Women's Cancer at University College London to significantly reduce the current 40% mortality rate from gynaecological cancers

7.       We fund world-class research at University College London, University of Cambridge, University of Manchester, University of Southern California and Harvard Medical School

8.       Our core research unit at the University College London has already achieved major breakthroughs towards improving survival rates of women with gynaecological cancers through pioneering research into screening, early diagnoses and risk prediction

9.       People are often too embarrassed to discuss gynaecological cancers or the signs and
symptoms, helping us to raise awareness will change this and help save women's lives

 

10.    Although we are a small charity our contribution is disproportionately large as we fund
innovative new research and cover gaps in funding which allows projects to maintain momentum
