Fundraising for Love Hope Strength Foundation
Story
Thank you for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page in support of Love Hope Strength Foundation (LHS).
Last year, we took on the Rock The Canyons challenge to raise funds and awareness of the wonderful work done by Love Hope Strength, a charity that promotes innovative, music-related, outreach and awareness programmes for leukemia and cancer sufferers, survivors and their families.
It was an amazing trip that raised a lot of money for excellent causes (as explained below) - if you want to see how it inspired us you can watch this short video clip filmed at the time.
This September we are continuing our support and once again challenging ourselves by taking part in Iceland Rocks - a 55km trek over three days, camping overnight, across demanding terrain in all kinds of weather! We hope our efforts will encourage donations to LHS, inspire others to take part and 'Get On The List'.
Rock the Canyons 2018 trek raised £28,500 for Love Hope Strength. The money raised has helped to support Love Hope Strength’s 'Get On The List’ programme, a volunteer-led campaign which encourages people to become potential blood stem cell donors. Since the programme began, Love Hope Strength has registered over 200,000 people to international stem cell donor registries. Over 4,000 of those who've registered have been identified as potentially life saving matches for people with a blood cancer or blood disorder who need a second chance of life. The money raised through Rock the Canyons has helped to fund volunteers’ expenses and materials required to promote the Get On The List programme.
In the past, LHS has always supported cancer care projects in the countries where LHS’ international treks have taken place. Rock the Canyons was no exception. Love Hope Strength has plans to support the Native American Cancer Prevention Partnership, which is a collaboration between the University of Arizona Cancer Centre, the Northern Arizona University and the USA’s National Cancer Institute. This partnership works to alleviate the unequal burden of cancer among Native Americans in the United States’ Southwest through research, training and community outreach programmes in collaboration with the communities it serves. LHS is currently ascertaining how the money raised can best be applied to have the maximum impact on these communities.
In addition, funds raised will be used to launch and implement a new ‘Walk and Talk’ scheme which is currently being developed by the Love Hope Strength Foundation in the UK. The aim of this scheme is to encourage positive health and wellbeing through exercising and socialising. The scheme will be launched in autumn 2019 and will focus on people affected by cancer; it’s being designed primarily for those with a cancer diagnosis and carers. Those who sign up with benefit from tools to establish and maintain groups and a support signposting service.
Our company has made a big donation towards our Iceland Rocks fundraising to make sure that every additional penny we can raise will directly benefit LHS plans: 50% of the money raised through Iceland Rocks will support the Get On The List programme; 25% will support LHS’ new International Grants programme which will be launched in autumn 2019 and which will see donations directed to priority projects selected in collaboration with the Union for International Cancer Control (UICC); and 25% will support the ‘Walk and Talk’ scheme and UK cancer care projects, chosen by leading cancer care professionals representing NHS charities
Many of our friends and family gave us wonderful support for Rock The Canyons last year but any small donation that you can give will further support these excellent programmes run by Love Hope Strength.
