Story
During the month of March I have set myself a challenge to cycle at least 500km in support of my local MIND mental health charity.
Never before has mental health been such an important issue to address. The pandemic has changed everyone's lives and no matter how strong we may appear to be on the surface, sometimes we all need a helping hand, a kind word, a friendly, non-judgemental ear, a hug.
Last year, I lost a friend. He was a wonderful man; full of energy and entrepreneurial spirit. I will always remember him as a cheerful, selfless, thoughtful person, always going to the ends of the earth to help people achieve their dreams, often at huge personal expense. Nothing was too much for him; he was your friend and he would help you, whenever you needed him. He loved his family and was fiercely proud of his children.
On 20th October 2020, he took his own life.
I believe that we can all help to prevent this from happening to others by showing kindness. Just taking a moment to smile at or say "good morning" to a stranger. To call an old friend or colleague for an impromptu chat. To pay more attention to others. To offer support to those who give support.
Just for a moment, imagine someone you care about - a friend, a family member, your partner - suffering a personal crisis in silence. Sadly, all too often it’s highly likely you’d never know anything about it.
What would you give to ensure that someone in desperate need of help and support had someone to turn to?
Please donate whatever you can afford, and if you can't afford to donate, please send me your thoughts and support as my tired legs are almost half a century old!
Thank you for reading, Trev.
In loving memory of Paul, Dave, Morten & Paulette. x
