Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.

We are raising funds for Daughters of Charity in Ethiopia. Sister Lemlem is one of the Daughters of Charity in Maichew and runs a Women in Development project. She has 200 women, some are young mothers with large families (many single mothers), some elderly and some mentally sick.  Fifty per cent (50%) of them are HIV/AIDS positive.  The young mothers are supported in a way that generates income.  For example, they are given a sum of money in order to start an income generating activity such as craftwork; skills taught by the Daughters.

Some use this money to go to the nearest town market to buy vegetables, grain and other materials which they would sell locally for a profit.  The elderly and the mentally ill people are supported with a food allowance and clothing.  Some of the elderly have to look after grandchildren who have been orphaned because the parents have died of Aids.

Also in the Maichew mission there is a Kindergarten and a Primary School run by the Sisters.  In both schools they have feeding programmes for the children.
Global food prices have risen so much to feed a child for one day costs 60 pence.  If meat is included in the diet it would cost approximately £1

Please help us to make a massive difference to the people who need us most by sponsoring us for the Malmesbury Triathlon on 26 Aug 12.
