Story
Last year, following a routine mammogram I received a letter asking me to attend an appointment at the Bristol Breast Care Centre which is based at Southmead hospital. The first thing that goes through your head is Cancer!
Since that date I have attended the centre many times and each time, despite being over-run with patients the members of staff whether they be Consultants, Nurses or support staff have been supportive, friendly and always have time to listen. Whilst spending time in the waiting room I noticed advertisements for a charity, B.U.S.T - the Breast Cancer Unit Support Trust which was formed in 1991 by patients and since forming has raised over £1,700,000 to date.
I nominated this charity as they are now a major funding partner for the Southmead Breast Care Centre which is a specialist One Stop Clinic, this is now widely recognised regionally and nationally as an excellent centre for Breast Care Services. I had been thinking of ways to raise money for them as a way of saying thank you.
This also highlights the need for everyone to be aware of changes, men as well as women can get breast cancer – see the case histories online.
