Make-A-Wish UK is part of a global movement that exists to make life-changing wishes come true for the thousands of critically ill children across the UK. The power of a wish allows families to create lasting memories that they will treasure forever – no matter what the future holds.

Story

Four Imperial College Business School students (Matt Smith, Paul McGovern, Ray Perry and Trine Haaland) are currently fundraising for the incredible charity, Make-A-Wish Foundation. As part of this fundraising process, they will be running the Brighton Marathon on Sunday 15th April 2012 and they need your help to raise as much as possible for this wonderful cause. (Also, to symbolize the importance of Make-A-Wish and what they do, they will all be running the marathon dressed as fairies!)

Make-A-Wish Foundation is a non-profit organization that grants magical wishes to children (3-17 years old) that are fighting life-threatening medical conditions. Over 20,000 children in the UK are living with a life-threatening condition and Make-A-Wish Foundation has already granted more than 7,300 magical wishes in the UK – and we now aim to help them transform more lives! We believe there is nothing more deserving than giving an extremely ill child the chance to have their final wish come true.

Ray – Make-A-Wish is a charity that is very close to my heart. I have worked with them previously and I realised the incredible impact that this charity has, not only on the children, but on their families as well. Make-A-Wish Foundation allows families to have those last memories as happy ones and creates something special that no other charity can provide. I therefore think this is an amazing cause and having met many children and families that have benefited from Make-A-Wish, I wish to help as many more as possible via our fundraising. This is also an incredible challenge for myself. For those of you that know me, I don’t exactly find walking too easy! So this will be a great chance for me to overcome my disability, whilst helping to change the lives of others.

Matt – When I heard that Ray was running the Brighton Marathon and fundraising for Make-a-Wish, I really wanted to help. Make-A-Wish gives the opportunity for children to have a absolutely fantastic experience and I would like to contribute to this worthy cause.

Trine – I have always wanted to run a marathon and raising money for a great cause like Make-A-Wish makes it all the more worthwhile.

Paul – A year ago the thought of running a marathon, let alone completing a marathon, seemed crazy to me. The time has come, however, to start challenging myself and pushing myself to my limits. Running a marathon will not only allow me to achieve a personal goal, but more important for Make-A-Wish, will bring children’s wishes to life.
