In the UK, one in four children leave primary school unable to read well, and one in five do not have a book of their own at home. Children from disadvantaged backgrounds are particularly affected, leaving school on average one year behind their peers.

Bookmark is a fantastic charity that helps children to develop the reading skills and confidence they need for a life of opportunity. They provide:

• Two one-to-one reading sessions per week for six weeks for children at risk of not reaching the expected reading standard.

• Termly or one-off book packs to create engaging reading spaces and strong reading cultures in schools.

• Additional support for teachers - through grants, literacy consultancy, support, and training resources.

I am determined to do my bit to help them carry out their fantastic work. On 13th October, I will be running the Royal Parks Half Marathon and I would really appreciate any support you may be able to give, it will make a huge difference.
