London Marathon 2018 · 22 April 2018 ·
Thanks to the British Airways Athletics Club (BAAC), I will be running the London Marathon on 22/04/18 in aid of Action for Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis (IPF). I am doing this in loving memory of my brother Johnny who sadly passed away due to this disease in June last year aged just 52. He leaves behind his loving wife Paula, and 5 beautiful daughters, Kellie, Tara, Sophie, Shavon, and Tia McCabe.
Pulmonary Fibrosis is a progressive lung disease that has no cure. It causes scarring on the lungs which gradually spreads, killing the ability to breathe as it grows. Idiopathic' simply means 'we don't know why it happens'.
For all my running friends, if you can imagine the huffing and puffing that comes after you have put every ounce of energy into sprinting that is how IPF sufferers feel sitting up straight in bed. Some sufferers have described it as being permanently waterboarded fear, panic, helpless and breathless agony.
At the moment, there's no cure and only a few treatments that may potentially slow down the process. I have vowed to tirelessly campaign to change these facts and I aim to do what I can to raise as much money as I can.
The charity has informed me that I will be the only one they are aware of running in the London Marathon for Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis.
If you wish to help me raise much needed funds to aid this valuable research, in order to source a breakthrough in medical sciences for this fatal disease, then please donate through my Just Giving page.
Thank you for taking the time to read my story and your support is greatly appreciated.
