Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
Last year ‘Trish’s Trekkers’ walked ‘Off The Beatson Track’ to raise funds for the Beatson Cancer Charity, in memory of my mum Trisha. She had hoped to be on the walk with us, but heartbreakingly she died three weeks before. So I’ll be walking it once again in her memory. But I’m also walking it because two months after Mum died I was diagnosed with breast cancer. In fact when I walked 'Off the Beatson Track' last year little did I know I had breast cancer! I too then ended up being treated at the Beatson. It was a very surreal and upsetting experience to be walking in Mum's footsteps. The staff and volunteers at the Beatson are amazing, the radiotherapy department full of very lovely people and my oncologist was very supportive and understanding. I still can’t quite believe I had cancer, although taking hormone therapy every day is a constant reminder. But I’m here, I caught it early and was lucky enough to be part of a trial to assess whether my cancer would respond to chemotherapy (which it wasn’t
so I was spared that horror, which is actually only beneficial in 30% of early breast cancer cases). The Beatson got me through and got me well, so please sponsor me to raise money so they can help
many more people with a cancer diagnosis. And if you want to join the walk on the 26th of August let me know. I’ll add you to our team.
We raised over £5000.00 last year which was fantastic. Please help us raise lots this year too.
