Story

As a lot of you know, I lost my best friend Shaun to Cystic Fibrosis in 2019 and not a day goes by when I don’t think of his smile and be grateful for the 38 years he had blessing people on this Earth. For 26 of those, after meeting when we were 11 when he moved to Banbury, we were inseparable. CF week begins 15th June and I am sure fundraising will be heavily impacted by the lack of large events currently allowed to take place. So I thought it would be good to do something I will probably regret.

Cornwall was a special place for Shaun, having been born there and always identifying as Cornish. Last year we had a beautiful remembrance day in Crantock, where we fired Shaun’s ashes into the air and shared great memories. Over the weekend of June 20th and 21st I will be cycling the 236 miles from Banbury (where I first met Shaun) to Crantock on my Peloton bike. Shaun had a big impact on everyone he met, including my partners dad (Dario) who met Shaun on what happened to be his last ever holiday, in beautiful Lake Como. Therefore he will join me on this challenge but on the real roads of Italy, cycling between Pavia in Lombardy to Liguria and back (if restrictions allow, if not the route will be a circular route within Lombardy).

I will likely regret this as I am not a cyclist, I don’t own a ‘real’ bike, I have never ridden for more than an hour before and have given myself 6 weeks to likely have to cycle for between 8-12 hours a day over two days. I am grateful though for having the Peloton bike and the ability to do this from my home. While Dario is a cyclist, he is 63 and has been under lockdown for over two months so will also have to put in some hefty training over the coming weeks. Any donations to support a charity very close to my heart and in memory of the nicest guy to grace this earth (in my opinion) would be so gratefully received.

Thanks,

Tristan & Dario
