Story
Cancer is a terrible condition which will affect almost all of us in one way or another.
We’ve signed up for our first (and possibly last) marathon to raise money for a UK based cancer support charity.
Whilst some charities focus on funding research into better treatments and potential cure, Maggie’s provides that human touch – supporting people living with beyond cancer and their families. Jack has first-hand experience of testicular cancer, after being diagnosed and successfully treated in 2020. After a long battle with bowel cancer, Saïd lost his dad last year and Maggie’s were invaluable in supporting his family in the months that followed. Dave's family has experienced the effects of cancer multiple times, and together we feel cancer is like a sucker punch from behind for most families, so to be able to support a charity that helps pick people back up and fight back is amazing.
We signed up to do the Midnight Sun Marathon in Tromsø back when Jack lived a little closer by (in Oslo) but plenty has changed since then. Prior to signing up to this Jack had only run one half marathon and Saïd & David had barely attempted to run more than 10km.
The Tromsø Midnight Sun Marathon is held inside the Arctic Circle, starting at 2030 in the evening. Participants run through the night in this very different marathon, with the sun not setting in this part of Norway at all in the evening, hence the Midnight Sun! The race is set to begin on the 18th June and we are all hoping to finish in the early hours of the 19th. We’ve done a fair bit of training since and would love your support as tackle our first marathon. Please donate and support us as we hope to help people with cancer alongside their families.
