Rising concern over the continuing high level of fatal and life-changing injury accidents on farms prompted NFU Mutual to set up a charitable foundation to help all farmers, and especially young farmers, work more safely. The Foundation works closely with farmers, the farming unions and a range of farming organisations, including the Farm Safety Partnerships of England, Wales, and Northern Ireland, to help reduce the toll of fatal and serious injury accidents which, regrettably, have made farming the most dangerous occupation in the UK. The Foundation's 'Yellow Wellies' campaign specifically targets young farmers aged 16 to 40 years of age.

Farm Safety Foundation (Yellow Wellies)

While UK farmers are among the best in the world, farming remains one of our country’s most hazardous industries; accounting for 1% of workers but 20% of all worker fatalities (HSE).

20 farm workers and 1 member of the public (a 4 year old child) lost their lives on GB farms in 2019/2020 according to the latest HSE Fatal Injuries in Agriculture, Forestry & Fishing report. Think about it… this means 21 families and communities mourning the loss of a loved one and we need this to stop.

The Farm Safety Foundation is an award-winning charity and dedicated to support the physical and mental wellbeing of the UK’s farmers.
