Sponsored Dog Walk · 15 September 2013 ·

KWT rescues and re-homes unwanted animals, mainly cats and dogs, and has a wildlife rehabilitation programme and emergency help line. The Trust's Rescue Centre is also home to horses, donkeys, cats, goats, birds and small mammals where, in the interest of their welfare, they remain in our care.

Story

Hamish and Shamus will be joining us on Registration for our annual Sponsored Dog Walk on the Ashdown Forest on 15th September, but, as they will not be able to take part in the walk, they are asking if you could support their kennel mates by sponsoring them on the walk and have therefore started this JustGiving page.  This is their story from The Kit Wilson Trust: Last October we received a call that two puppies had been dumped at the entrance of a local boarding kennels. Although it transpired that they both had leg deformities, we agreed to take them in. On their arrival at the centre we were presented with two male fluffy bundles, approximately ten weeks old, of German Shepherd x Poodle origin. They were gorgeous!  Our vet assessed their condition and X-rays revealed that the bones on the forelegs were twisted, both legs being affected in the black puppy and one on the sable puppy. The future was thought to be uncertain and the pups were referred to a specialist veterinary clinic in Surrey.   We named them Hamish (the black one) and Shamus (the sable one), gave them little and often exercise and as time was spent with them their individual personalities shone through. Both have beautiful temperaments, are loving, quick to learn and utterly devoted to each other. Unfortunately the surgical procedures had not realised the small improvement to mobility that the consultant had hoped for, but both were otherwise well in themselves and time would tell. We do not know for certain how long these beautiful puppies have in this world, it may be anything from 2 to 10 years, but we are determined that it will be a happy and pain-free life for the time that they do have.   However, we would really like to find a very special permanent foster home for this brave pair, who have never so much as grumbled at their extensive treatment.   If you feel you could offer this devoted pair the love, care and comforts of a true home environment, are mentally strong enough to withstand an emotional journey into an unsure future and would be prepared to be adored by two brothers that capture the hearts of all they meet  -  then please call Colette at the Centre to have a chat regarding enabling this inseparable pair to have as full a life as possible!
