Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.

I suspect that this is a story common to a number of families - that of a very fortunate and tight-knit family with great friends managing typical small scale day to day challenges whilst balancing two careers, spending more time with their grandparents and and watching children studying for A2s and working out what to do after University until on December 3rd 2015 everything changed. Out of the blue, Trudi suffered a major sub arachnoid haemorrhage at work and for the next four months was in a state of reduced consciousness. Her early medical care was at Kings College Hospital (where she worked) and St Georges Hospital (where she had worked for the 12 years before) until on March 31st 2016 she was transferred to Clifden ward at the Royal Hospital for Neuro-disability in Putney. Her progress since admission has been amazing. She has regained consciousness, been transferred to Drapers ward and with the support of her specialist neuro-rehab team and the love and support of "Trudi's friends" is improving week by week and is planning to return home in September and in due course, we hope, to work.

Its hard to articulate just how her time at the RHND has and is transforming our family's life. For a lucky few patients, like Trudi, the gains can be dramatic but for all of the patients and their families, the services and facilities make a real difference to lives. RHND is a charitable foundation, has been providing care for over 150 years and needs to raise @£42K a week to fund the services it delivers.

Trudy if initially a somewhat reluctant cyclist loved riding with family and friends and for someone who found the sports focus on reward through pain and suffering deeply unattractive was quietly hardcore and finished Etape du Tours in 2013 and 2014 (stopping off to buy a fleece from a camping shop in the rain of biblical proportions on the descent fom the Tourmalet), riding from St Jean du Pied du Port to Santiago de Compostela with Theo and myself and from Paris to Roscoff as an honorary Cornishwoman. Trudi has ridden the Ride London 100 since it started but had to pass up her ballot place this year.

Trudi, myself, Sam and Theo last all rode a big ride together in 2009 (see the pictures). Whilst Trudi is temporarily off the bike this year, Sam, Theo and myself are hugely excited by the opportunity for three of us to ride together on July 31st with a number of Trudi's friends, raise funds for RHND, are looking forward to being greeted by Trudi at the finish in the Mall and hope that she will be back riding soon.

The RHND is a unique place and sets the standards in brain injury rehabilitation. It has made a difference to our and so many other families lives.

Please help the three of us support the RHND in whatever way you can.

Thank you
