Cambridgeshire, Peterborough and South Lincolnshire Mind (CPSL Mind) is a county-wide mental health charity. We support local people on their road to recovery from mental health challenges and we campaign against the stigma & discrimination faced by so many people with mental health conditions.

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.

There was a grand plan for the Summer of 2004 for Andy, Tom and Nicholas to walk Wainwright's Coast to Coast route, with Rosie and Alice as their back up team. Throughout their childhood Andy was an inspiration to his three beloved children to learn and appreciate the natural world by walking, observing and enjoying being outdoors.

The maps were bought and thoughts of joy and pleasure were anticipated through the long dark winter of 2003/4.

Tragically that plan never materialised........

For reasons none of us will ever fully comprehend, Andy chose to end his very special life on 9th February 2004, just four days before his 48th birthday. However his overdose was not immediately successful, and he remained in hospital in a coma until his death on 31st March 2004.

Life without a husband or a father has been horribly  painful for us to bear, but we remain a strong and united family and have supported each other through the most difficult times.

Ten years on we feel ready to celebrate Andy's life by taking on the challenge of this wonderful walk.

We will be setting off from St. Bees on the West coast of Cumbria on 17th June.

We want to raise money for Mental Health Services in Cambridgeshire by donating to Cam Mind but also to Cambridge Samaritans who are there 24 hours a day for people in crisis.

This is our way to hopefully make a small contribution to these invaluable charities which undoubtably help to make a positive difference and potentially prevent tragedies in other families.
