SUAG provides practical, financial and emotional support to spinal cord injured people and their families in the North West of England following an irrevocable, life changing event and at the time when it is most needed.

Story

Most of you will know that my husband Ben had an accident on 2nd July 2011.  Ben has broken his neck and is currently paralysed.  After spending 4 weeks in Hope Hospital's Intensive Care Unit, Ben has been moved to the North West Spinal Injuries Centre in Southport where he is likely to spend a year completing his rehabilitation.

I want to raise as much as possible for the group who do amazing work at the centre.  Therefore to ensure you all dig deep I will be pushing myself to do stupid things, starting with signing myself up  for the Bupa Great Manchester Run on 20th May 2012 and also the Brighton Half Marathon on 19th February 2012!!!  I've paid the entrance fees so it's too late to back out of these now!  I am however open to suggestions of anything else you lot will sponsor me to do (within reason!)

The Spinal Unit Action Group was established in 1973 to support the patients and ex-patients of the centre in Southport.

 What they do:

Provide and maintain a long and short term residential home at 6 Weld Road Southport.

Run various social events for patients and their visitors at the Spinal Injury Centre on a monthly basis.

Fund accommodation for selected relatives (criteria to be met)

Fund travel expenses for selected relatives (criteria to be met)

Engage in general fundraising activities throughout the year

Provide a free weekly coffee bar for patients and their visitors

Provide Volunteer drivers for patients

Provide specialist equipment
