Our vision is to protect threatened species and enable people to help wildlife thrive. We're home to over 400 amazing animals, some are sadly vulnerable to extinction. It costs over £11,500 each week to feed and care for them. Your donations really do help.

Story

Everyone who knows Tom will know of his passion for adventure and wildlife! We have therefore chosen a charity that aligns with Tom’s interests. Dartmoor Zoological Park also has a heart-warming backstory captured in the film We Bought a Zoo. This is a film that Tom loved (a definite must watch). To summarise the story of the zoo, it previously had a poor reputation and suffered financial difficulty. With such a bleak outlook the zoo couldn’t find a purchaser which would have meant all animals would have to be destroyed. Mr Benjamin Mee and his family took over the zoo in 2006 and fought to get the zoo back up and running. The zoo has been transformed over the years and has been converted to a charity.

In 2016 Tom bought his partner Stacey and his sister Fee ‘Big Cat Keeper Experience’ vouchers where both could get up close with the tigers and lions. This is a special memory and a true case of Tom’s thoughtful nature and willingness to treat his loved ones. During the experience day, both Fee and Stace witnessed how the zoo keepers had a real passion for all the animals and a genuine interest in their well-being.

By donating in Tom’s name to Dartmoor Zoological Park the funds will go towards supporting the zoo in all their efforts. Zoo owner Mr Mee dreams of this zoo becoming a centre of excellence for research, conservation and education. Tom would be proud to support this work and change the lives of animals living at Dartmoor Zoological Park.

Before setting up this page we spoke to Benjamin Mee and told him about Tom and our plan to donate in his name. Mr Mee has kindly notified us they would like to put a plaque somewhere in the zoo for Tom. We hope to put this by the Lions because it’s fair to say Tom possessed the same characteristics as these brave, bold, magnificent creatures.

Thank you so much for taking the time to visit the page and read this information. Your support is sincerely appreciated.
