Table Tennis World Record Attempt · 16 July 2011

We‘re the world‘s leading cancer charity dedicated to saving and improving lives through research. We fund research into the prevention, detection and treatment of more than 200 types of cancer through the work of over 4,000 scientists, doctors and nurses.

Story

The challenge has been set to break the record for the longest control of a table tennis ball with a table tennis bat. Currently standing at 4 hours, 39 minutes, 52 seconds this was achieved by Deepak Sharma Bajagain (Nepal) at the National Sports Council's Covered Hall in Tripureshwor, Kathmandu, Nepal, on 1 December 2009.

I made the decision earlier this year that I was going to break a World Record, this had always been an ambition and I thought I could make it a kind of New Year resolution for 2011. I studied the Guiness World Record book and found one that stuck in my mind, not only because I thought it was do-able but because thought it would appeal to my closest friend Chris. The longest control of a table tennis ball with a Table Tennis bat, appealed to me as I am never going to be the most tattooed man or grow the longest fingernails in the world, plus I knew Chris had played table tennis at County level and might fancy doing it with me. From there it has snowballed and is now a large charity event for which we have each chosen a charity. For mine I have chosen Cancer Research, as it has touched my life in various forms, as I know it has many others. Hopefully we can raise the profile of this event and will raise plenty of money along the way. It promises to be a tough journey, and alot of fun, just hope we don’t end up dropping our balls.
