The project expenses have been covered by Tullow Oil. The money raised will be donated to 'Spear'.
“Spear” helps otherwise unemployable young people to enter the job market through training, mentoring and other assistance through a six week pre-employment training programme for 16-24 year olds. The courses address the most common causes of underachievement, such as low motivation, poor life skills and lack of the right skills and guidance to find a job. More than 80% of those who have completed Spear since 2004 were in some form of work or education 12 months after completing the course.
“Spear” reaches out to young people in Chiswick, Hounslow, Isleworth, Hammersmith, Shepherds Bush, White City, East Acton, Fulham and West Kensington. It has plans to extend its reach in London and to set up a social business, “Spearhead”, to provide job opportunities for Spear graduates in local businesses. They also want to double the number of places on the programme in West London. To sustain this plan, Spear needs to raise more than £500k each year.
