Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
In August last year, we received the devastating news that my wonderful father in law had pancreatic cancer. He is one of the lucky ones and after a long and complex operation the affected areas were removed. He will now undergo chemo for the next few months. Never once have we heard him complain.
Unless affected directly by it, pancreatic cancer is something many of us know little about. It is a secretive and aggressive cancer which is difficult to diagnose and sadly in the majority of cases, it is identified too late for a surgery to take place - the only possible cure.
My aim is to raise the profile and awareness of this disease together with much needed funds. Despite being the fifth most common cancer in the UK, pancreatic cancer research receives just 1% of research funding and the survival rate has decreased over the last 20 years whereas that of many other cancers has increased dramatically. These statistics must change.
So my challenges? Well, challenge number one is to dye my hair purple. Not much of a challenge you might think. But considering my mousey brown hair has only ever seen a slightly darker shade of brown, it is something of a challenge to me! But in for a penny in for a pound, I am turning purple! Watch this space for further challenge updates!
