20 in 2020

Thanks for taking the time to visit this team just giving page for some of the ladies from Haslemere Hockey Club.
My names Kate and I wanted to put together a team of 20 people to help me do ‘20 in 2020’.
The team consists of:
Abbie Walhen, Alice Toynton, Beanie Bradley, Becky Davidson, Celia Hall, Hannah Cross, Hannah Enticknap, Hannah Gribble, Heidi Wells, Jess Edwards, Jess Tite, Jules Bernays, Jules Weston, Kate Cudbertson, Katie Mansell, Mads Smagacz, Mel Knight, Saz Elworthy, Sibs Orchard-Webb, and me, Kate Hutchings.
At the start of May 2019 I was diagnosed with Breast Cancer. I had a 5cm tumour that as far as I was concerned appeared from no where. I started cancer treatment very quickly after my diagnosis, 8 rounds of chemo, surgery & a month of radiotherapy. My treatment finished on the 10th of January 2020 and luckily, I got to ring the bell. I am incredibly grateful for the treatment I received. I am very lucky that I live near a great hospital, and I had a Cancer care team that embraced advances in research. I want to make sure others get the same opportunities that I did.
I’ve always been an active person so the thought of doing something to raise money for Cancer Research was something I wanted to do. Once I finished treatment, I started to think about what I could do, and one of the ideas was that I would take part in 20 CRUK events in 2020 (20 in 2020). And then we had a pandemic and everything was cancelled..
But I still want to raise some money, and by changing the theme of 20 in 2020 slightly I have convinced 19 of my hockey team mates to run 5K with me on the 27th of September as part of Cancer Research UK’s Big virtual
weekend. 20 people in 2020.
We are raising money as a team, because it’s always better being part of a team.
Please donate, if it’s not for the fact I’ve made 19 other people do extra running, but I have also shared some of the worst photos ever taken of me in the gallery.
Thank you for your support,
Kate
