Tweseldown Play Group Father's Day Fundraiser · 22 June 2020

A men’s shed is a larger version of the typical man’s shed in the garden – a place where he feels at home and pursues practical interests with a high degree of autonomy. A men’s shed offers members a place to work on projects at their own pace and in a safe, friendly and inclusive venue. A shed’s activities usually involve making or mending in wood (eg carpentry, joinery, turning, carving, whittling, marquetry, furniture renovation) but may include metalworking (milling, sheet metal, welding etc) bike repair, gardening, electronics, tool renovation, boat renovation, model engineering (model railways, planes) and even building a car! Reclamation, reuse and restoration will feature strongly – and some say that is true of the men too! Although sheds mostly attract older men, some have included men of any age, women and young people. Whichever activities are pursued the essence of a shed is not a building, which some don’t have, but the network of relationships between the members.

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.

As we are unlikely to be able to do our usual Father’s Day Pottery, we would like to do something a little different so we can still acknowledge this special day.

Instead, we would like the children to take part in their own fundraising activity to raise funds for a local charity, Church Crookham Men’s Shed.  There are lots of men’s sheds around the UK now. They are community spaces for men to connect, converse and create. The activities are often similar to those of garden sheds, but for groups of men to enjoy together. They help reduce loneliness and isolation, but most importantly, they’re fun. Our local men’s shed actually made our mud kitchen in the outdoor area so we would like to support them this Father’s Day!

We would like your child (and daddy) to ask for sponsors from friends and family to do some ‘silly races’! The suggestions are:

  • How many laps can you run around your back garden or local green space wearing a ‘silly hat' in 5 minutes?
  • How many items of clothing can you put on in 5 minutes?
  • The list is endless.....

Your child can be sponsored per lap/per item or for an overall amount for just taking on the challenge.

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving - they'll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they'll send your money directly to the charity. So it's the most efficient way to donate - saving time and cutting costs for the charity.

Thank you for your support and good luck in your races!

Happy Father's Day, daddies and grandads!
