Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.
Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. So it’s the most efficient way to donate (we can receive donations up until the 3rd of December 2010).
We are three good friends in our first year at Durham University who took part in a charity jailbreak. This is an event where students try to travel as far as possible from Durham in 36 hours...it sounds simple...but try doing it without spending any money!
Our adventure began at the Durham prison at 8:00am on Saturday the 13th of November. We hitchhiked to East Midlands Airport and were very kindly donated a flight by BMI Baby to Alicante (Costa Blanca, Southern Spain) where the "Danger Brothers" kindly helped us raise money once we had landed.
We then relied on the generosity of the other arrivals to enable us to get a bus for the next leg of our journey to the city centre of Alicante. After having photo opportunities on the beach we decided it was time to find a place for the night...which was much easier said than done. We aimed high, but no hotels would accommodate us for free.
So, when it looked like all hope was lost, tourist information gave us the name of a hostel (Hostal de Sal) nearby. It was a long shot, but after lots of persuasion they granted us our wish of a room for the night.
After a long and tiring, yet enjoyable but sometimes stressful, happy and successful day, we felt a good meal was justified. Hence, the creation of chocolate pizza time!
We were hoping to get a good nights sleep in preparation for another long and tiring, yet enjoyable but sometimes stressful, happy and successful day. However, what we did not anticipate was the "American snoring troll" that we discovered under Franki's bed. As a result our early night was not very successful...at all!
In the morning we proceeded to make our way back to Durham, first by flying back to East Midlands Airport thanks again to BMI Baby, then by shuttle bus to Derby Train Station, and finally a train all the way back to Durham itself.
The most amazing part of our experience was the generosity of businesses, their employees, and the general public who enabled us to make the trip without spending a penny on travel costs. Thus, maximising the amount of money going to Project HOPE UK. With special thanks to BMI Baby as our journey would not have been possible without them.
All our efforts were in aid of 'Project HOPE UK' which is a charity involved in helping orphans and vulnerable young people all over the world. Every penny counts because of the number of small-scale projects they carry out globally, in relatively unknown communities, which aid rarely reaches. So please donate as much as you can! :)
Thank you!
Love Hugo, Bethan and Franki xXx
