Story
I am running the Chester 10km on 18 July 2021 to raise money for the Hospice of the Good Shepherd in Chester!
The Hospice offers palliative care services, day therapies and bereavement counselling for resident of Cheshire West, Chester and Deeside. They are a dedicated team of staff and healthcare professions who aim to meet the physical, emotional, social and spiritual needs of those with life-limiting illness, and to maintain their dignity. The focus is not just on the patients either as the Hospice also provides much-needed support for relatives, carers and friends of those with life-limiting illnesses.
Unfortunately due to the Covid-19 pandemic, funding for the Hospice has been a struggle. Less than a third of the £4million annual running costs is funded by government and with the last year seeing the cancellation of almost all fundraising events and the closure of charity shops for lengthy periods, the Hospice is in need of our support to bridge the funding gap.
Aside from this, my wonderful mother is the Family Support Services Manager for the Hospice and a Senior Counsellor herself. We therefore see and hear first hand the impact the Hospice's services have on our community, and the benefit to the Hospice movement for everyone.
Please do consider donating and / or coming out to support us during the run in Chester on 18 July 2021! We'll both probably be having pints with our medals in a nice city centre pub for the afternoon!
thanks
John H
