You'll no doubt know that I've been involved with Team Rubicon UK for a while, and right now our volunteers are working on critical projects responding to the Covid 19 outbreak here in the UK.
From building food distribution centres here in Surrey for the most vulnerable and creating mini supermarkets for NHS staff in London hospitals, through to managing the movement and recording of the deceased, they take on the jobs that need doing, no matter how difficult.
I can't volunteer with Team Rubicon UK in this response, so am instead busying myself with my sewing machine making ppe, but I feel I need to make my contribution to the Team Rubicon effort.
So, I'll be joining a group of mega fit, crazy people who do 'cross fit' (I believe it's a "thing") for enjoyment to see if I can kill myself through exercise. The 2.6hour challenge involves all sorts of things that I don't yet understand such as... 'Air Squats' and 'Hand Stand Push Ups'?... But in between the hundreds of burpees, 1 mile runs etc there's a 2.6 minute rest, so that's nice!
Just to be clear, my current exercise regime involves a gentle cycle with the girls or a small jog round the block, the threat of death is REAL!
I've been told I can drink gin afterwards, and, if I get my first set of full scrubs finished by then, I'll start the 2.6 hrs in those!
Please give generously, this is NOT going to be fun, but maybe it will bring in a bit of money for a small, lean UK charity that looks after every penny donated and is doing a huge job responding to the current pandemic.
We can’t stop hurricanes, floods or earthquakes. But we can make sure we're ready for them. Team Rubicon’s chiefly ex-military volunteers earned their spurs in hostile, character-testing environments. Today, they deliver life-saving aid, at home or abroad. Every “Greyshirt” volunteer, whether a veteran or civilian, brings grit, determination and hard-won experience to our humanitarian mission. We’re one team with a bias for action, creating order in the wake of destruction.
