Story

EXPEDITION UPDATE 17/JULY/2011

After 23 days & nights I finally made it around Wales from Chepstow to Prestatyn. Funnily enough I landed in the exact spot where the Offa's dyke path (that goes all the way to Chepstow) a 182 miles away, start's, (or finishes). Trust me to take the long way around.

I made the trip solo & without land backup so it was tents & exped beards all the way, (LOL).

I've had an amazing time, seen amazing sights & wildlife & learnt a lot about myself along the way. I'll be posting day diaries & images to my blog over the next few days for anyone thats interested.

Thanks to everyone who's made a donation to the Make A Wish Foundation.

You can see my progress throughout each day on Google maps via this web adress(though their only live for 7 days & will be gone soon)

Thanks for taking the time to visit the Tyla Images JustGiving page.

I, like many people have dreams & ambitions, in fact I have many dreams & ambitions, but I also have good health &, hopefully, plenty of time to achieve them.

Children have dreams & ambitions too, the children ‘Make A Wish’ help suffer from serious, life threatening illness & may not have much time to make these dreams come true.

What could be more important than granting a wish to a seriously ill child, not only for the child but for the parents too?  Parents, after all, want nothing more than to see their child happy.

‘Make A Wish’ needs to raise 5.5 million pounds this year alone & if I can scratch the surface & contribute to this amount then I can tick another dream off my list.

My challenge will be to circumnavigate the Welsh mainland coastline by sea kayak, from border to border, O.K. not strictly a circumnavigation but you get my drift.

I plan to set off from Chepstow on the day of the May New Moon (Tuesday the 3rd of May 2011) & follow the coast right around to the appropriately named ‘Tarran industrial estate’ (surely a good omen) in Wallasey, just past the Welsh Border. A distance of about 750 miles.

I might have to change the date as I ain’t setting off in a force 7 sea but once underway I wont have this luxury & will have to sit it out if the weather turns bad. I’m hoping to complete the trip in 4 weeks, that’s a 27-mile a day average (hopefully).

I’ve been sea kayaking for about 5 years & have recently passed my 3 star sea kayak assessment. I am well aware of the dangers involved & which parts of the coastline to be nervous of. I’m currently working towards my 4 star sea leaders award & hope to have achieved this prior to the trip.

It’s a big undertaking this trip & I’m rightly nervous about it.

Please, Please dig deep, it would be wonderful if through achieving my dream I could help other to achieve theirs.

For training updates & other kayak adventures please visit my Kayaking Blog.
