River Tyne; Source to Sea by Kayak for Changing Lives · 30 March 2019

At Changing Lives we believe that everyone deserves a safe home, a rewarding job and a life free from addiction or abuse. By focusing on their strengths, potential and opportunities, we help over 14,000 people overcome their problems and live safe, successful, independent lives each year.

Story

On the weekend of 30/31 March members of Tyne Valley Canoe Club will attempt to paddle the length of the River North Tyne from it's source at Kielder Dam to the sea at Tynemouth to raise money for the Changing Lives North East. Changing Lives supports vulnerable people and families to make positive and lasting changes towards a fulfilling life including providing support for those experiencing homelessness, drug addiction and domestic abuse.

The trip will be a real test of endurance with a total journey distance of approximately 66 miles. The first day (33 miles) from Kielder to Corbridge is the most technical including the class 3 Warden gorge, the second day from Corbridge to Tynemouth will pass through the centre of Newcastle. Permission for the trip has been obtained from Port of Tyne.

Please help us support Changing Lives.
