Story
Every week in the UK at least 12 apparently fit and healthy young people die of undiagnosed cardiac conditions. With your donation, CRY can reduce the frequency of young sudden cardiac death (YSCD) by working with cardiologists and family doctors to establish good practice and appropriate screening facilities to promote and protect the cardiac health of our young.
Two members of our club have been directly affected by these circumstances. One of which tells us about her own experience with heart conditions:
"So, I'm really happy that this year that UEANC have announced that the charity we will be supporting is Cardiac Risk in the Young, or better known as CRY. This charity is really close to me as I've had family members unfortunately lose their lives at incredibly young ages such as my Grandma and my Cousin, of unknown and undiagnosed heart conditions.
Similarly over the last few years I've also suffered with a few heart problems myself and the doctors are working hard to try and identify what the problem is. The reason this is taking so long is because this area of work is so underfunded and because the machinery they need to use to identify the problems are so expensive to run and to provide.
Every week in the UK 12 young people die due to undiagnosed and unknown heart conditions, which is a really scary thought. However, CRY are working incredibly hard to battle against this, they'll take our funding and they will use this to spread awareness of heart related problems to introduce a screening process into schools for free, to do research into the heart and to offer support to families who have been affected.
I'm really proud that as a club, UEANC could help save the lives of young people just by even raising awareness and I'm really looking forward to what this year brings, so thank you all for voting!"
