Story
Hello, I’m Mona.
In August 2026, I will be trekking to the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro — Africa’s highest peak — as part of the UK Universities Charity Challenge. I will be taking on this challenge alongside a group of students from Imperial College London.
This is a physically and mentally demanding journey, and one that requires months of preparation. But more importantly, it is an opportunity to contribute to something far beyond the climb itself.
Why this matters
Education has the power to break cycles of poverty across generations. It creates not only knowledge, but dignity, stability, and choice.
I am fundraising for Street Child UK, a charity that works to ensure children in some of the world’s most challenging environments have access to education, safety, and long-term stability.
For many of the children supported by Street Child, education is not simply about learning — it is a foundation for protection and opportunity. It can mean:
• a safe place to go each day
• protection from child labour, exploitation, or early marriage
• a pathway towards independence and a different future
Why this challenge
Climbing Kilimanjaro is something I have chosen to do. It is a challenge I can prepare for, train for, and ultimately step away from.
For many children, however, the challenges they face are not temporary, and not optional.
This fundraising effort is my way of linking a personal challenge to a wider purpose — turning time, effort, and discomfort into something that can contribute to real and lasting change.
Fundraising goal
I am aiming to raise £3,390 in support of Street Child.
Every contribution, regardless of size, will directly support programmes that help children access education and build safer, more stable futures.
How you can help
If you are able to support this campaign, thank you.
Your donation will help turn this challenge into something meaningful beyond the climb itself — contributing to opportunities for children who would otherwise not have them.
Thank you for taking the time to read this, and for your support.
Mona
