Story
My name is Sevin, I’m a third-year Business with Law student. As part of my last year of undergrad, I’ve decided to take on a huge challenge, trekking to Machu Picchu with a group of other students, in support of Teenage Cancer Trust.
Why Teenage Cancer Trust?
Teenage Cancer Trust is the only UK charity dedicated to providing specialised care and support for young people aged 13-24 with cancer. It transforms lives in practical, visible ways.
One of the charity’s most powerful contributions is redesigning entire cancer wards. Many teenagers with cancer are treated on adult wards that can feel isolating and intimidating. Teenage Cancer Trust funds bright, welcoming spaces designed with young people in mind, places where they can socialise, study, relax and feel a sense of normality during treatment.
The charity also provides deeply personal support. For young people who lose their treatment, Teenage Cancer Trust helps fund wig services and appearance support, allowing teenagers to regain confidence at a time when identity and self-esteem are already fragile.
Beyond physical spaces, Teenage Cancer Trust funds specialist youth cancer nurses who are trained to understand the unique emotional and social challenges faced by 13-24 year olds. These nurses offer one-to-one support, help young people navigate education and friendships during treatment and ensure no one feels unheard or alone.
What stands out most is that the charity looks beyond survival. It focuses on comfort, dignity, confidence and belonging, thus helping young people contribute to being young people, even in the toughest circumstances.
As a student, I’m incredibly aware of how formative these years are, they’re meant to be about growth, ambition and opportunity. For many young people with cancer, this growth is interrupted. Supporting Teenage Cancer Trust is my way of helping ensure that no young person has to face cancer without the right care, support and community around them.
Every donation, no matter the size, will make a real difference!
