UK CAPITAL CITY TRIATHLON
THE CHALLANGE
My name is Dave Lemon, and in August 2022 I will be looking to complete a Long Distance Triathlon between the Capital Cities of the UK whilst raising money for Sports Relief.
The challenge will start off in Belfast, Northern Ireland with a run to Donaguee before completing the North Channel Swim from Donaguee to Portpatrick, Scotland. The North Channel swim is a registered long-distance swim with Oceans Seven and Irish Long Distance Swimming Association (ILDSA). The next element will be to cycle from Portpatrick to Cardiff via Edinburgh and the final stage is to run from Cardiff to London.
This challenge is unique and has never been completed before. Having completed numerous Ironman Triathlon Competitions, a Double Ironman and numerous Marathons (including 5 of the 6 Abbott Stars and looking to complete the 6th Star in 2022 or 2023 depending on entry) along with other Endurance Charity Events, this is a personal challenge I have been pondering for a number of years. The magnitude of this challenge is extreme and would be a huge personal achievement once completed. There have only been 81 solo finishers of the North Channel Swim but never anyone combining all the events and linking the Capital Cities.
During this time of uncertainty with Brexit and COVID, the UK seems divided. With this challenge, a personal goal is to join the 4 countries together and, in my mind, make Britain great again. I hope to raise awareness of how all the countries are linked and how Great Britain really is as one unity.
My plan is to raise money for Sports Relief and more information about the charity can be found at the following link:
WHAT LIES AHEAD
I will be looking to complete the challenge over 10 days. This will include running 26 miles on day 1, swimming 21 miles on day 2, cycling approximately 100 miles a day between days 3 and 7 before running 50 miles a day for days 8 and 10. Along the way, there will be a chance for photos with any sponsors and hopefully photos with individual country leaders or representatives.
