UK Cloud Magnets The Grand Tour Scottish Dark Sky Observatory · 25 August 2022

The Scottish Dark Sky Observatory (SDSO) is located near the village of Dalmellington, on the northern edge of the IDA 'gold tier' designated Galloway Forest Dark Sky Park. The SDSO's principal aim is to enthuse and educate all interested parties in the wonders offered by dark night skies.

Story

On the 25th August 2022 Mick Scott and Paul Hackett will set off from John O'Groats on a 9 day cycling trip to Lands End in aid of The British Heart Foundation, consisting of 8-10 hours cycling per day to get to each overnight locations.

The Scottish Dark Sky Observatory sadly burnt down on the 23 June 2021 which devastated the Astronomy community and was a huge loss for the thousands of people that visited the dark sky site each year.

We will be cycling totally unsupported throughout the entire journey which in total is 1526km/948miles and a staggering 10,522 meters total accent over the 9 days.

These figures hurt our legs just thinking about them.

Neither of us are professional cyclists although we both enjoy the fun and fitness involved with endurance road cycling.

I will have a Live Tracker fitted to my bike so that people can follow our journey in real time.

You can also use it to cycle along with us when we pass through your location by using the share spot link.

This will become active on the 24th August when we set off to drive to John O'Groats and can be accessed by going to www.ukcloudmagnets.co.uk and clicking on the John O'Groats to Lands End tab.
