Saturday
Arrived safely and settled in at the centre. Small rooms lots of people sharing ! no space for vast wardrobes. Early nights for everyone, ready for the big start tomorrow!
Sunday
Woke to brilliant sunshine. Bags packed, ready for the off. Group one left at 8:00am. Group 2 had a little lie in and left at 9:00am. Group one has had an up and down day! More up than down!! The toughest leg out of the way! Group two had a very flat day, walking along the beach. 13 miles of walking on the sand is quite hard.
Monday
Group one - Another early start, wet, wet wet!! We played trains on the old railway tracks. We walked 13 miles, from Niarbyll to Kirk Michael. Girls in good spirits, despite torrential rain!
Group two - Yet another day on the sands, 12.7 miles infact! Weather wasnot as kind though and we all managed to test out our waterproofs to their limit!! One highlight was sitting having some lunch, whilst watching two seals play in the water. Day ended by walking in to Ramsey, where we had time to have a look at the shops, before walking back to the Venture Centre.
Many enjoyed a nice relaxing neck and shoulder massage from two local beauty therapists, and had a talk on Manx history but a local lady. Looking forward to tomorrow, hoping the weather will get better.
Tuesday Group one – The Rocky road to Ayre. Girls were all stranded on the beach due to high tide. Strong northerly winds made it feel more like Alaska, whilst covering the 14miles on the golden sands.
Group two – What a stunning day, leaving from the venture centre and walking to Laxey. Fabulous views along the way and great news about GCSE results to keep spirits high. We all enjoyed the electric tram ride back to the centre, after managing just to catch the last tram.
Wednesday
Group one - Another day on the beach from Ayre to Ramsey. Lovely day, fantastic conditions for walking which involved seaweed fights. Tarmac had never looked so good after miles on the beach!! We enjoyed an ice cream in Ramsey.
Group two - Fantastic fun packed day on the walk from Laxey to Douglas. Weather was perfect and we all had a barrel of laughs. Views were again, amazing and we even had some cliff walking which was a little scary. We had some shopping time in Douglas and each had a large ice cream. We enjoyed a bus journey home back to the venture centre.
Evening activies included Manx dancing, a vist to Parliment and shooting.
Thursday
Group one - Lovely day today, walking from the Venture Centre to Laxey, with the special guest of the Chief Guide. We had a moment of fame as we were filmed for possibly Granda tv. Followed by a mad dash to catch the last tram!!
Group two - Another very hot day, starting in Douglas, ending in Castletown. The route took us along many cliff edges again!! This leg of the route was the longest, at 15miles, so a very tiring day!
Friday Group one – A scenic walk from Laxey to Douglas, managed to get there in time to get a giant ice cream caught the number 3 bus back. Group two – A lovely walk from Castletown to Port Erin. Stunning views around Port St Mary, The Sound and Calf of Man. A great place for seal watching! In the evening a hog roast and barn dance where we danced the night away! Saturday Group one – A really really long wet walk from Douglas to Castletown. We teetered along sheer cliffs and braved a field of bullocks! Group two – Mountain day today, although we weren’t defeated!! It was a hard struggle for us all, but we were all determined to have our Mountain Top Moment, which we all did! A fantastic experience, followed by a scary moment, when we were chased out of a field by a herd of bullocks! All looking forward to our final day.
Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.
We have challenged ourselves to walk 100 miles around the coastal paths of the Isle of Man this August for 100 years of Girl Guiding. We want to raise funds for the Marina Dalglish Appeal to help build a much needed Radiotherapy Centre in the Liverpool area, bringing the treatment closer to the patients. This will greatly reduce the time spent travelling and hopefully ease part of the suffering for those affected.
