Umega's 5k-A-Day December 2021

Umega Lettings is raising money for Scottish Action for Mental Health

Umega's 5k-A-Day December 2021 · 24 November 2021

Around since 1923, SAMH currently operates over 60 services in communities across Scotland. These services together with our national programme work in See Me, respectme, suicide prevention, sport and physical activity; inform our policy and campaign work to influence positive social change.

Story

We're dusting off our runners, dawning our leggings (which are feeling a little more snug post-lockdown), and frantically searching for our old Strava passwords  to embark on Umega's second go at 5kadayDecember.

We'll be joining the dark cold nights to complete 5k every day from 1st December to Hogmanay. We'll each cover the distance by foot or 2 wheels! Running, walking, cycling (and closer to the end) rolling will all be accepted.
We're taking on the challenge to raise money for SAMH, a brilliant charity that provides invaluable Mental Health social care services across Scotland, working to influence positive social change surrounding mental health. Umega have been a strong supporter of SAMH over the years and have always felt that the values Umega hold dear are well aligned to them as an organisation. We all have mental health, just as we have physical health, and
it's important that we respect, and give time, to both. Did you know, every year 1 in 4 of us will experience a mental health problem? If you haven't, the chances are you know someone who does. In short, it affects everyone.

We've recruited (ok, reluctantly recruited) 14 Umega athletes to take on this challenge. If you want to join in, the more the merrier! Please follow along and reach out to us via our socials. We'll need all the encouragement we can get.

Since it's the season for giving, we hope that you can dig as deep as we will be to spare a little bit of cash. Maybe the price of a Pumpkin Spiced skinny soy latte or one less mulled wine at the Christmas markets. It's been a tough year, so we hope that if you can't spare any pennies, you can have a wee think about your own mental health and that of all of those around you. The generosity we experienced last time around blew us away and really kept us all cheery in those last kilometres.
