Me and dad have decided to take on the 50km hiking challenge at Trekfest 2018 to raise money for Marie Curie.
Why Marie Curie?
When my beautiful nan was diagnosed with Ovarian cancer in early 2016 none of us were ready for the devastating effects not only the disease, but the treatment as well, has on a person. My nan fought bravely that year. Our family, my mum and aunt especially, spent endless hours caring for and sitting with my nan so she could be in her own home until the end. Marie Curie provided nurses to care for my beautiful nan through out the night to give much needed respite to our family during this hard time.
Every pound you donate supports people living with terminal illnesses.
- £20 pays for an hour of dedicated nursing care.
- £70 pays for two slide sheets, which are used by Marie Curie nurses to move someone safely in bed.
- £180 pays for a Marie Curie nurse to look after someone for a full nine hour shift in the comfort of their own home, like my nan.
What is Trekfest?
Trekfest is the UK's ultimate trekking challenge, taking in the beauty of the Peak District national park. There are two routes 25km or 50km. Me and dad decided to take on the 50km (30 miles) route for the ultimate challenge. This route starts in the Hope Valley and summits Kinder Scout, a moorland plateau of 2,087ft, the highest point in the Peak District.
