Spread a Smile brings joy and laughter to seriously ill children in NHS hospitals and hospices across the country. Through in-person and virtual visits and events, our entertainers enhance wellbeing and help families cope with the pain and anxiety of serious illness and hospitalisation.

Story

For the past 6 years, I have worked closely with the children's charity Spread a Smile, who provide entertainment as therapy for seriously ill children & teenagers in hospital.

Inspired by working with these children, a few years ago I embarked on a crazy journey to raise money/awareness for the charity. To date, I've achieved multiple Guinness World Records including magic while skydiving, magic in a wind tunnel and the most magic performed while blindfolded in 1 minute.

This year I'm breaking the Guinness World Record for the most magic performed underwater in 3 minutes, as a tribute to the brave families of Spread a Smile. This is being attempted in the water stage at the prestigious Pinewood Studios.

As a result of the restrictions in place due to COVID-19 this year, it has made it extremely tough for children in hospital. Families are no longer able to collectively visit the hospital, making the child feel even more isolated. This year, Spread a Smile has moved all entertainment online, providing families a chance to spend time together virtually in a way that allows them to briefly escape the real world.

With £5000, Spread a Smile can provide either;

1,200 minutes of vital entertainment to seriously ill and terminal children, as well as to their siblings, parents and other family members. It could enable 20 children and their family to have an hour long virtual visit with a Spread a Smile entertainer of their choice.

160 personalised radiotherapy masks, painted for children who are having to undergo this intensive treatment. These masks remove much of the fear associated with the child’s treatment and can transform what is often a traumatic experience.
