Birmingham to Tokyo 2020 · 11 May 2020

Refuge opened the world’s first refuge in West London in 1971. We support thousands of women & children every day, experiencing domestic and sexual violence, female genital mutilation, forced marriage, stalking, trafficking, prostitution & so-called ‘honour’ based violence.

Story

In honour of the Tokyo 2020 Olympic games, 4 of UoBs finest clubs have teamed up to take on an 8000 mile trip to Tokyo from Birmingham. We believe the support that refuge provide is extremely important for the lives of women and children who experience domestic violence.

One woman in four will experience domestic violence at some point in her lifetime and two women are killed each week in England and Wales by a current or former partner. Refuge supports around 6,000 women & children on any given day, experiencing domestic and sexual violence, female genital mutilation, forced marriage, stalking, trafficking, prostitution & so-called ‘honour’ based violence. By kindly sponsoring us today you are helping to save and change the lives of thousands of women and children escaping domestic violence.

Thank you.
